Restoration and Conservation
Gold has been used as a decorative feature on carvings for thousands of years and we often work on historic objects and houses that have gilded features in need of repair. It is essential in these cases that the correct methods are used to not only consolidate the gold if needed, but also blend in the new gilding with the old.
William Barsley has been trained in gilding, learning the traditional techniques of water gilding, which allows for a high burnish to the gold. He is also familiar with oil gilding and newer techniques and methods.
